Timo Sarpanevaは1926年ヘルシンキ生まれ。1948年ヘルシンキ美術工芸大学グラフィックデザイン学科卒。その後イッタラ社のプロダクトデザイナー兼展示課長となる。1950年代には本人およびイッタラ社の代表作となるiシリーズを発表。現在も引き継がれているiittala社のiマークもこの時デザインしたTimo sarpanevaによるものです。 1951年と1957年にミラノトリエンナーレ展で大賞受賞。芸術的なものから実用的なものまでまたガラス製品だけではなくウッド・メタル・陶器・テキスタイルなど多岐にわたりデザインする。Kaj Franck,Tapio Wirkkalaと並びフィンランドを代表する3大デザイナーの一人。2006年10月没
